How I work
My approach is warm, compassionately direct and collaborative. I believe we all have the innate capacity to heal and grow and I am here to guide you.
I create a container of radical acceptance where all emotions and experiences are welcome. I help you turn towards the parts of you that are hurting, that you may have been running from for years.
The main modalities I work with are Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems and Brain spotting.
Why Somatic Therapy?
Somatic therapy has been shown to be more effective than traditional talk therapy for the healing of trauma, anxiety, dissociation, and feelings of stuckness. While talk therapy primarily focuses on verbal communication and cognitive processes, somatic therapy engages with the subconscious by going deeper into the nervous system and memory held in the body.
In somatic therapy, we recognize that trauma is stored in the body. By working directly with these physical sensations, we can release this energy, facilitating a profound healing process. Through this body-centered approach, you can develop a deeper connection with yourself, fostering resilience and promoting long-term recovery.
“Being fully embodied and the ability to feel the full spectrum of your sensations and emotions is your birthright.”
In our sessions I will help you reconnect with your body, which may not have felt safe in the past. Together, we will gently and gradually explore your sensations through mindfulness, movement, and meditation. By paying close attention to the body's signals, we can begin to understand and release the trapped survival energy that got frozen in your body. This trapped energy can manifest as chronic tension, pain, or emotional blockages.
What is Internal Family Systems?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps you learn to love all parts of yourself by fostering a deep understanding and acceptance of your experience.
Through IFS, you discover that every part of you, even those carrying pain or exhibiting unwanted behaviors, has positive intentions and valuable insights.
By connecting with these parts from a place of compassion and curiosity, you can heal past wounds and integrate these aspects into a cohesive, harmonious whole. This process cultivates a profound self-love and appreciation, as you come to see and embrace the complexity of all of who you are.
IFS is an evidence based treatment for trauma that can profoundly shift your relationship to yourself.
What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is an evidenced based treatment for trauma that goes beyond the conscious mind into the nervous system and body.
Brainspotting facilitates the release of traumatic memories, limiting beliefs, and buried emotions. This approach can achieve results that go far beyond what traditional talk therapy can offer, making it particularly effective for addressing issues that feel especially stuck.
Brainspotting is a modality that grew out of EMDR and similar to EMDR, facilitates deep, non-verbal processing that can be incredibly profound. For more information, go to: https://brainspotting.com/about-bsp/what-is-brainspotting/
